XVII International AIDS Conference, Mexico City, Mexico
In August, 2008, all four APRP Researchers presented current work at the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City. APRP Director, Dr. Edward Green presented a poster titled, "Role of Traditional Leadership in Supporting and Designing HIV Prevention Interventions." Dr. Daniel Halperin gave an oral poster presentation titled, "Rethinking HIV Prevention in Generalized Epidemics". Research Fellows Allison Ruark and Timothy Mah presented posters, titled "A Qualitative Analysis of the Sexual Behavior and HIV Risk of Older Ugandans" and "Frequency and Correlates of Concurrency in Khayelitsha, South Africa," respectively.
April 29, 2008:
Dangerous Liaisons: Concurrent Sexual Partnerships and the South African HIV/AIDS Epidemic
On April 29, 2008, APRP Research Fellow Timothy Mah presented his on-going research into concurrent sexual partnerships in the South African township of Khayelitsha, Western Cape to the Takemi Fellows in International Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. The presentation included preliminary data from a study that examined the frequency of concurrent partnerships, correlates of such partnerships and the socio-cultural and socio-economic contexts of the phenomenon, using mixed methods.

This symposium brought together scientific researchers, pioneers of the Uganda behavior-based approach, religious leaders, reproductive health specialists, historians, policymakers and government leaders in Munyonyo, Uganda to discuss the latest research evidence from Africa that pertains to prevention of the sexual transmission of HIV, and related issues.
